Diego & Lola’s Story: The Film

Prepare to be challenged. This isn’t just a movie; it’s a cultural Molotov cocktail. Diego & Lola’s Story plunges headfirst into the migrant experience, love, and moral ambiguity, sparking vital conversations our world desperately needs right now.

Cinema can change the world — and Diego & Lola’s Story will prove it. By daring to subvert Hollywood’s tropes, the film delivers a raw, unflinching look at the migrant experience, as it follows characters split between right and wrong forced to make intensely consequential choices for themselves and others. There are no easy heroes or villains in this story. Instead, it ignites debate by presenting a deeply human story that forces audiences to grapple with moral gray areas and uncomfortable truths.

In a world growing increasingly polarized and heading towards crisis, the film refuses to take a clear ideological stance, opting instead to explore the characters’ intentions more freely, floating controversial motivations, and becoming a rod for both praise and vitriol.

“Diego & Lola Story” is a cultural flashpoint poised to explode. Currently in pre-production, the project is seeking early-stage funding to bring this story to life ahead of a pitch to Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s VP of Content for Latin America.

About the Story: A Desperate Escape, Burning Desire a Trusted Companion

The story begins under the moon and the stars on the beaches of Playa Blanca in Colombia. A fortuitous meet-cute between Diego, a young Colombian man, and Mike, a tourist from Texas, opens a door for Diego to escape from a hopeless situation and chase his dream.

Leaving everything behind except his faithful dog, Lola the white pit bull, Diego embarks on a perilous adventure to the United States. The road will be a minefield of temptations and the journey will test his body, mind and soul.

Along the way, Diego will be assisted — and often imperiled — by people motivated by intentions that are hard to decipher. Split between reality and the fantasy each person wants to believe, the gravity of every character will influence the outcome of Diego’s path.

Diego will have to learn how to navigate a world where kindness is a commodity and survival demands compromise, forcing him to confront his deepest values, make hard choices, and face their ultimate consequences.

In a fractured world where everyone is hustling to survive, Diego must decide:

How far will he go to achieve his dream?

Beyond Representation: a New Latin American Narrative

Is this movie the next Emilia Perez? While the French film ignited debate, Diego & Lola’s Story offers a vital corrective: a raw, authentic story told by Latin America’s voices. The film doesn’t just speak about culture — it speaks from within the culture, putting nuance and truth back on the global stage.

The story happens in the middle of socio-economic transformations, race dynamics, gay culture, Mexican identity, social media’s obsession with beauty and youth, and even the underground sex worker scene.

Entertainment with a Purpose: Storytelling as a Catalyst for Change

“Diego & Lola’s Story” isn’t just good entertainment; it’s a strategic intervention.

The film aims to shift perceptions around migration, humanize the headlines, and spark meaningful dialogue that leads to much needed policy reforms. Backed by a robust digital strategy and aligned with the values of organizations like Open Society Foundations and The Ford Foundation, we believe this film can be a powerful force for good, proving that art can indeed change the world.
